The following extensive information about Downies living in West Central Fife in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was compiled by Jill Martin with the help of a number of other people. It lists the many descendants of David Downie and Janet Greig, who married in Auchterderran in 1754. No earlier reference to David Downie has yet been found.
I am very sad to have to report that Jill Martin died on 1 May 2010 in Athens, Greece as she prepared to return to her home in South Africa after a Mediterranean cruise. She will be badly missed.
